I’ve been reading a lot lately about how Gary Vaynerchuk has been using web 2.0 and social media to promote his wine business, and how he has turned a 5 million dollar a year business into a 50 million dollar business. Gary’s business philosophies are very inspiring and make a young entrepreneur really fired up about marketing and promotion. Social media sites such as twitter, facebook, myspace, etc are only on the fringe of the general public, and will be continuing to grow in the next 24-36 months. With services such as these users are able to reach huge numbers of individuals with one click. How can you do that in other ways? Sure the phonebook, magazines, and a website can help, but these all cost a great deal of money and you still probably won’t see the numbers you will see with social media. Social media is revolutionizing the way information and advertising is being handled. It is no longer acceptable to just advertise to your clients, you must be involved with them, answering questions, keeping them updated, and more. If your company doesn’t have a blog that you regularly post to, you are missing out on big opportunity.
I have recently started a new position with Harvest Coffeehouse and Beanery in Bay City, MI. Being a marketing major at SVSU, I am always looking at ways to boost business and generate more revenue. Because I have seen that there is a great deal of opportunity within the college and post college crowd, I created a Facebook Page for the shop. With this, we will be able to send updates to fans of our shop, offer special promotions, advertise events, and keep a constant line of communication with our customers. Please add us to your fan pages!

I know I haven’t been posting updates in a while, things have been very busy. Hopefully I will be able to post more in the coming weeks as I will finally get organized with projects that I have been doing. Please add us to your feed reader or stop back and check my updates!
